Privacy Policy

Emma's Maths Corner · Last updated: 1 October 2026

Your privacy matters, and so does the privacy of every young person who uses this website. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. We've kept it as clear as we can, because a privacy policy nobody can understand isn't much use to anyone.

The short version

  • We only collect what we need. That's your email address if you download a resource, and your name and comment if you comment on the blog.

  • We never sell your information. Not to anyone, ever.

  • We check comments before they go live. Please don't share your full name, school or where you live.

  • If you're under 13, please ask a parent or carer to help before downloading anything or leaving a comment.

  • You're in charge of your information. You can ask to see it, change it or delete it at any time. Just email us.

1. Who we are

Emma's Maths Corner is a UK-based maths tutoring business run by Emma. When this policy says "we", "us" or "our", that's who we mean.

We are the "data controller" for the personal information collected through this website, which means we decide how it's used and we're responsible for looking after it.

If you have any questions about this policy or your information, email emmasmathscorner@gmail.com.

2. The information we collect

When you download a resource. We ask for your email address so we can send you your download. That's all we need, so that's all we ask for.

When you comment on the blog. We collect the name or display name you choose, your email address if you give it, and your comment. If you sign in with another account (such as Google) to comment, that service may share basic profile details with us, like your name and profile picture. Your comment and display name will be visible to anyone who reads the blog.

When you email us. We'll have your email address and anything you choose to include in your message.

When you visit the website. Our website platform, Squarespace, automatically collects some technical information, such as your IP address, browser type, device, the pages you visit and how you arrived at the site. This helps keep the site secure and shows us which resources are most useful. See section 8 for more on cookies.

We don't ask for sensitive information, such as details about health or additional learning needs, through this website. Please don't include anything like that in a blog comment.

3. How and why we use your information

The law says we need a valid reason (a "lawful basis") for using your information. Here's what we use it for and why:

  • To send you the resource you asked for. Lawful basis: legitimate interests (you asked for it, and we need your email address to deliver it).

  • To send you news, tips or new resources by email, but only if you've ticked a box to say yes. Lawful basis: consent. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email.

  • To publish, moderate and reply to blog comments. Lawful basis: legitimate interests (running a safe, friendly blog).

  • To reply when you get in touch. Lawful basis: legitimate interests.

  • To keep the website working, secure and useful. Lawful basis: legitimate interests. Where non-essential cookies are involved, we ask for your consent first.

  • To meet our legal obligations, for example if we are required by law to keep or share certain records. Lawful basis: legal obligation.

We will never use your information to make automated decisions about you, and we will never sell it.

4. Children and young people

This website is for students, parents and carers, so we know some of the people visiting are young. We take extra care as a result.

  • If you're under 13, please ask a parent or carer before you download a resource or leave a comment. It's best if they use their own email address for downloads. If we find out we've collected information from a child under 13 without a parent or carer's involvement, we'll delete it.

  • We review every blog comment before it's published. We won't publish comments that include personal details like a full name, school, phone number or address, and we'll remove anything that isn't kind or safe.

  • We collect as little as possible. We don't build profiles of young people, we don't use their information for advertising, and we don't share it with anyone except the services listed in section 5 that we need to run the website.

  • Young people have rights too. Anyone old enough to understand their rights can make a request about their own information. Parents and carers can also make requests on behalf of younger children.

5. Who we share your information with

We only share information with trusted services that help us run Emma's Maths Corner, and only what they need to do their job:

  • Squarespace, which hosts our website and handles downloads, blog comments, website analytics and cookies.

  • Google, which provides our email service (Gmail).

  • Sign-in providers, such as Google, if you choose to use one to leave a blog comment.

We may also share information if the law requires us to, or if it's needed to protect someone's safety.

6. Information stored outside the UK

Some of the services we use, including Squarespace and Google, may store or process information outside the UK, for example in the United States. When that happens, it is protected by legal safeguards recognised under UK law, such as the UK–US "data bridge" or approved contract terms, so your information gets the same level of protection it would in the UK.

7. How long we keep your information

  • Download records: up to 2 years, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.

  • Email newsletter list (if you opted in): until you unsubscribe.

  • Blog comments: for as long as the blog post is live, or until you ask us to remove your comment.

  • Emails you send us: up to 2 years after our last contact.

  • Website analytics: for as long as Squarespace keeps them under its own retention settings.

When we no longer need your information, we delete it securely.

8. Cookies

Cookies are small files stored on your device when you visit a website. Our site uses:

  • Essential cookies, which Squarespace needs to make the site work and keep it secure. These don't need your consent.

  • Analytics cookies, which show us how people use the site so we can improve it. You can choose whether to allow these using the cookie banner when you first visit.

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Squarespace explains the cookies it uses in its own cookie policy at squarespace.com.

9. Keeping your information safe

We use secure, reputable services, protect our accounts with strong passwords and two-step verification, and only keep information for as long as we need it. No website can be 100% secure, but we take every reasonable step to protect your information.

10. Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the information we hold about you

  • ask us to correct anything that's wrong

  • ask us to delete your information

  • ask us to limit how we use your information

  • object to us using your information

  • ask for your information in a format you can take elsewhere

  • withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on it (such as for emails)

To use any of these rights, email emmasmathscorner@gmail.com. It's free, and we'll respond within one month. We may need to check who you are before we act on a request, to make sure we're giving information to the right person.

11. Making a complaint

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first by emailing emmasmathscorner@gmail.com. We'll acknowledge your complaint within 30 days, look into it properly, and let you know the outcome without unnecessary delay.

If you're still not satisfied, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk or by calling 0303 123 1113.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we start using a new service. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated at the top.
